The world famous Mardi Gras has been celebrated in New Orleans since 1838. Mardi Gras celebrates food and fun up to midnight on Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Louisiana was named in honor of King Louis XIV. The Superdome in New Orleans is the worlds largest steel-constructed room unobstructed by posts. The capital is Baton Rouge, the state's nickname is the Pelican State, Magnolia is the state's flower and the state tree is the Bald Cypress.

Chapter 7
The Bypassed East includes New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. While Louisiana is not part of the Bypassed East, both regions are well known for fishing.
